Chelmsford Community Transport Ltd was started in February 1997 under the umbrella of Chelmsford Council for Voluntary Services.
CCT Ltd became independent and was incorporated under the Companies Act as a Company Limited by Guarantee on 3rd March 1999 and entered in the Central Register of Charities on 27th May 1999.
Funded intially by Essex County Council it now also receives regular grant funding from Chelmsford Borough Council and Chelmer Housing Partnership. We have also had successful bids to the Countryside Agency and The Big Lottery.
The Company has seven Trustee/Directors and currently employs seven people, a Charity Director a Bookings Co-ordinator an Admin/Accounts assistant and four full-time Minibus Drivers.
We operate a Social Car scheme which is used to transport the inhabitants of the Borough of Chelmsford, who have need by reason of age, mental or physical disability or poverty. This scheme utilises the services of volunteers who use their own cars and receive out of pocket expenses. The volunteers for this scheme number 22.
On the 1st of May 2001 Chelmsford Community Transport started Chelmsford's first Dial-A-Ride using a purpose built wheelchair accessible Mercedes minibus. Demand has grown to such an extent that we are now operating four Mercedes minibuses and employ four full-time drivers. During the year 2005-2006 we completed 33,133 passenger trips 5,306 of these were people in wheelchairs.
The company also operates a minibus brokerage scheme and currently has two 14 seat wheelchair accessible Mercedes, plus access to three other wheelchair accessible minibuses owned by local groups. These vehicles are available for use by local community groups at very low cost. During the year 2005-2006 these vehicles carried 30,111 passengers on 2,912 trips. There are some seventy groups registered to use the brokerage.
